I grew up in Santa Rosa and graduated from Montgomery High School, long, long ago. I worked in the medical field during high school and while attending Santa Rosa Junior College. I graduated from the University of California San Diego (Revelle College) with a degree in Biology. After a brief detour into and back out of the business world, I earned my Teaching Credential at Dominican University of San Rafael.
Teaching History

I started my teaching career at Rincon Valley Middle School in 1993, where I taught science and science electives. I was hired as a founding staff member at Maria Carrillo High School when the school was just an empty field, and I have taught all levels of Biology (Advanced Placement, Honors, Academic and Biology) at one time or other since the school opened in 1996. My colleagues are among the best teachers I know, and I am honored and humbled to work with them. I am currently the Science Department Chairperson, and I am training to be a Courage to Teach Facilitator.

I love the ocean and spend as much time as possible in it or near it. I am a photographer and I like to use my photos in my teaching, and especially to inspire people to look more closely at nature. I also love hiking, Yosemite National Park, playing my ukulele, throwing the ball for my dog and spending time my family. My son, my niece, and all of their friends recently graduated from MCHS, so in addition to being a proud teacher, I am also a proud Puma Parent. My favorite part of my job is having the opportunity to work with such great kids, and to see who they become when they return to see me as adults.
